FAQ For Donors


First, a bit of clarification on the relationship/differences between two of our highly-regarded platforms with similar names:


The Giving Partner is a year-round/everyday online giving platform reflecting in-depth profiles of 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations with programmatic impact in one or more of the following counties: Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and/or DeSoto. This powerful, searchable platform offers multiple data points for reviewing the nonprofit organization. 


Giving Challenge is a 24-hour online giving event, typically held every other year, available exclusively to nonprofits with a tax status of 501(c)(3) Public Supported Charity or Public Charity Supporting Organization with an Approved/CURRENT status in The Giving Partner. This event provides nonprofit organizations the opportunity to gain exposure and create relationships with new donors, and brings our community together to raise funds for local nonprofit organizations.

Q. Who can donate?

Anyone with a credit card and access to the internet.


Q. Can I make donations via a mobile device?

Yes! Simply visit www.TheGivingPartner.org on your mobile device.


Q. Is there a minimum donation?

Donations of $5 or more are accepted on www.TheGivingPartner.org and are 100% tax-deductible.


Q. Will I receive a receipt for tax purposes?

Yes. Your tax receipt is automatically emailed immediately upon processing your donation. To claim a donation as a deduction on U.S. taxes, you should retain the donation receipt as an official record.


Q. Are there fees involved?

There is an online gift processing fee for donations made on www.TheGivingPartner.org. This fee, which is charged by the online payment vendor GiveGab and credit card processing company, will be deducted from each contribution. You can choose to round up your donation to cover these fees during the checkout process. 

There is no fee for nonprofit organizations to have a profile.


Q. As a donor, can I receive a benefit for giving?

Donations may not be made in exchange for goods, services, memberships, dues, tickets or other services or benefits.


Q. What forms of payment are accepted?

Credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express) or debit cards.


Q. Can I donate to multiple nonprofits in one transaction?

Yes! With the gift basket multi-give feature, donors have the opportunity to donate to several nonprofit organizations by entering their credit card information only one time.


Q. May I designate how a nonprofit uses my gift?

All donations made are considered unrestricted gifts to the nonprofit organization.


Q. Is the site secure?

Secure donations for The Giving Partner are provided through GiveGab to each donor entering their own credit card information directly on the giving site.

Any third party who enters credit card information on behalf of a donor, by their actions of entering any such credit card information on behalf of a donor assumes all risk of loss and any liability associated with such transaction and indemnifies each of the sponsoring foundations and nonprofit organizations of The Giving Partner against any and all risk of loss and any liability associated with such transaction.


Q. Who will receive my contact information?

The nonprofit organization(s) you choose to support will have access to your name and email address unless you check the box 'hide my name from this organization and the public' to remain anonymous. 


Q. What is GiveGab?

GiveGab is a nonprofit giving platform that helps nonprofits to raise money, engage donors and manage volunteers.


Q. Do I need to create an account with GiveGab to donate?

No. You do not need to create an account to make a donation. The benefits of creating an account include having your tax receipts collected in one location, being able to track your donations, follow the charities you support, and engage in future volunteering and donations.


Q. What if I can't find my favorite nonprofit on The Giving Partner?

If you can't find them on the website, please encourage the nonprofit to contact us at Nonprofits@CFSarasota.org to request information about how to develop a profile.


Q. How is COVID-19 impacting The Giving Partner?

It is important to note that the unrestricted funds provide our nonprofit partners flexibility to respond to community needs, especially as those needs evolve or change.

Q. What is the Families First Response Coronavirus Response Act and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief & Economic Security Act (CARES Act) and what do they mean for you as an individual, nonprofit, and/or donor?

The United States Congress passed these two acts to respond to the economic ramifications brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. While the situation in our community will continue to evolve, these legislative acts are crucial resources in helping families and individuals nationwide receive much needed aid and relief.

Giving Challenge

Q. When is the Giving Challenge?

The last Giving Challenge was held in April of 2020; future Giving Challenge dates have not yet been determined.


Q. Which organizations are eligible to participate in the Giving Challenge?

501(c)(3) public charities who serve Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and DeSoto county that have demonstrated transparency with an Approved/CURRENT profile in The Giving Partner (www.TheGivingPartner.org).


Q. Who can donate?

Anyone with a credit card and access to the internet.


Q. Can I make donations via a mobile device?

Yes! 


Q. Is there a minimum donation?

Donations of $25 or more are accepted on www.thegivingpartner.org and are 100% tax-deductible.


Q. Will I receive a receipt for tax purposes?

Yes. Your tax receipt is automatically emailed immediately upon processing your donation. To claim a donation as a deduction on U.S. taxes, you should retain the donation receipt as an official record.


Q. Are there fees involved?

The online gift processing fee for donations made on www.givingpartnerchallenge.org is 5%, standard for Give Day events across the country. This fee, which is charged by the online payment vendor GiveGab and credit card processing company, will be deducted from each contribution. You can choose to round up your donation to cover these fees during the checkout process. 

There is no fee for nonprofit organizations to participate. The Community Foundation of Sarasota County takes no fees, has granted $200,000 to incentivize giving, and donates hundreds of hours of administrative support to make the event possible.

Credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express) or debit card donations. All donations are irrevocable (donations will not be refunded) and will be for the unrestricted use of your chosen nonprofit organization.


Q. Can I donate to multiple nonprofits in one transaction?

Yes! With the gift basket multi-give feature available for the Giving Challenge, donors have the opportunity to donate to several nonprofit organizations by entering their credit card information only one time.


Q. May I designate how a nonprofit uses my gift?

Any third party who enters credit card information on behalf of a donor, by their actions of entering any such credit card information on behalf of a donor has signified their agreement with the sponsoring foundations and organizations of the Giving Challenge 1.) to assume all risk of loss and any liability associated with such transaction and 2.) to indemnify each of the sponsoring foundations and nonprofit organizations of the Giving Challenge against any and all risk of loss and any liability associated with such transaction.


Q. How will donations be distributed?

Each donation made to a participating nonprofit organization will be disbursed directly from The Community Foundation of Sarasota County via a check.


Q. Who will receive my contact information?

The nonprofit organization(s) you choose to support will have access to your name and email address unless you check the box 'hide my name from this organization and the public' to remain anonymous. 


Q. What is GiveGab?

GiveGab is a nonprofit giving platform that helps nonprofits to raise money, engage donors and manage volunteers quickly and efficiently. GiveGab offers a full portfolio of simple and easy to use products that allows organizations to function in a more streamlined manner.


Q. Do I need to create an account with GiveGab to donate to the Giving Challenge?

No. You do not need to create an account to make a donation. The benefits of creating an account include having your tax receipts collected in one location, being able to track your donations, follow the charities you support, and engage in future volunteering and donations.


Q. What if I can't find my favorite nonprofit on the website?

If you can't find them on the site, they may not be participating in the Giving Challenge this year. After the event, please encourage the nonprofit to contact us at Nonprofits@CFSarasota.org so we can be sure they are ready for future Giving Challenges.


Q. How is COVID-19 impacting the 2020 Giving Challenge?

We feel it is important to note that the unrestricted funds raised during the Giving Challenge provide our nonprofit partners flexibility to respond to community needs, especially as those needs evolve or change.

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County is gathering needs from nonprofit organizations as this situation evolves, and the 2020 Giving Challenge will be one of several grant-funding tools available to help with a response.
